5 Days in Nepal
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when someone mentions Nepal? TREKS AND MOUNTAINS!
Since I am not a big fan of trekking so I visited these instead during my 5 days trip and eventually ended up doing a short trek because WHY NOT! 😀
Â
Kathmandu
– Durbar Square – It is square with several temples. Many of the buildings have collapsed due to the earthquake that happened in 2015.
Â
There’s an entrance fee to the site but if you visit at sunrise, you may be able to skip paying the entrance fee!
Â
Â
– Nagarkot – If you are visiting Pokhara and short on time, you could skip Nagarkot.
There isn’t much to do in Nagarkot so you might as well view the Himalayas from Pokhara.Â
Â
– Kailashnath Mahadev Statue – It is said to be the one of the world’s tallest Lord Shiva. It’s a scenic route towards the statue and it also has a nice view from the top.
Â
Pokhara
– Mahendra & Bat Cave – I visited Mahendra &Â Bat Cave to kill time while waiting for the weather to clear up for my paragliding flight. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Â
Â
– Phewa Lake – The best way to view Phewa lake is either from Shanti Stupa which requires a few days of a hike or from a paragliding flight! A 30 minutes flight costs 50 – 55 USD with photos and videos. I know a lot of places charge higher than that, so don’t forget to bargain!
Â
– Paragliding – This is a MUST do. It costs 50 USD including pick up and drops off at your accommodation. The flight starts at the Sarangkot hill and lands in Phewa Lake.
Â
The flight takes about 30 minutes and ask the pilot to take you as high as possible and for a cross-country flight!
Â
– Australian Base Camp – I decided to trek even though I’m not a fan of trekking. I chose Australian Base Camp because it takes only a total of about 3 hours and it is an easy trail. It’s safe and easy to do it on your own.
Â
There’s a clear sign of the route or you can simply use the app maps.me.
Â
Â
Â
I could have easily added a shortcut trek to Poonhill and white water rafting and still have plenty of time to rest but due to lack of preparation, I couldn’t fit them in.
Â
So here is my itinerary suggestion if you have only 5 or 4 days in Nepal and if you want to do as much trekking as possible during a short time. You could replace the trek with some meditation, yoga, cooking class or simply hang out in the villages because Nepalis are the nicest people you’ll meet!
Â
Day 1
Kathmandu – Sight Seeing
Take a night bus to Pokhara
Â
Day 2
– Arrive in Pokhara
– Paragliding – Take the morning flight at 9 am and you will finish at around 11 a.m.
– White Water rafting – They have it at 9 am and 1pm. This will take about 3 – 4 hours so you could catch the 1pm after paragliding.
– Take a bus to Dhampus
– Rest at a homestay
Â
Day 3
– Trek to Australian Basecamp for sunrise (It takes about an hour to two from Dhampus)
– Explore Dhampus Village
– Take a bus to Ulleri Village
– Rest at a homestay
Â
Day 4
– Poonhill Trek for sunrise (Begin your trek at least 6 hours before sunrise)
– Descend and take a bus back to Kathmandu
Â
Day 5
Rest or Explore until your departure time 😀
Â
Villages to Visit – Here are some areas in which you can find the Gurung tribe that is in close proximity to Pokhara
1. Sirubari
2. Syangja
3. Panchase
Â
Important: A permit is required to visit Poonhill Peak. Please do your research on that. Australian BaseCamp doesn’t need a permit as long as you don’t camp/spend overnight.
Â
Other Notes:
1. Road conditions are terrible, be prepared to get comfy during your bus rides.
2. IT IS EXTREMELY CHEAP! As long as you avoid the tourist spots such as Lakeside.
3. For visa requirements, check here.
